The Situation

Spider-Man 2 was PlayStation’s biggest game launch of the year. Following the tremendous success of 2018’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was set to release to enormous expectations. With playable versions of both Miles Morales and Peter Parker, the game was based on one foundational idea: that people are "Greater Together."

The Ask: Turn the theme of "Greater Together" into the year’s biggest gaming activation

In an increasingly remote world, how do we leverage the concept of togetherness to turn the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 into a momentous event not just in the world of gaming, but in pop culture at large?

The Idea:  Use the world’s most beloved superhero symbol to unite groups around the globe.

Based on web search alone, Spider-Man is the world’s most popular superhero and nothing symbolizes Spider-Man as succinctly as his Spidey Suit. We decided to unite creators and celebrities with unique audiences around the globe using their connection to and ubiquitous love of Spider-Man’s suit. 

The Execution: Custom Spidey Suit collaborations

To help realize the vision of global celebrities and their massive audience, we enlisted the help of renowned fashion designer KidSuper. With KidSuper’s expertise in design and fabrication, we called on our talent to communicate their unique concept for a one-of-a-kind Spidey Suit in a series of discussions with KidSuper. After KidSuper’s designs were revealed to the world, the suits were to be made available in-game for gamers around the globe.

The Results: The fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive ever

With over 2.5 million units sold in its first day on the market, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 became the fastest selling PlayStation exclusive ever, outpacing another familiar success story—last year’s God of War: Ragnarök. While the in-game versions of the custom Spidey Suits weren't available until 2024, the campaign was a smashing success, with interactions from fans and creators worldwide—a key activation in one of the most successful PS5 launches in history.

PlayStation’s accessories often take a backseat to the system and controllers, with most attention focused on game marketing. But instead of letting players turn to competitors who regularly spotlight accessories, we wanted to remind our loyal fans that there's even more to love about the PlayStation experience.

The Ask

How do we show two key PlayStation peripheral products as must-haves for gamers of all levels?

It’s easy for certain products to get overshadowed in PlayStation's portfolio, but the focus was to put a spotlight on them in a way that was more than just hitting people over the head with tech specs.

The Idea

Create a story about seamless use with the help of a few friends.

The easiest way for someone to get a good understanding of what these products are capable of is to see them used in real scenarios. By leveraging a little star power and the hottest PlayStation IP at the time, we wanted to tell a story that felt like everyone could experience.

Call of Duty: Warzone is a living legend. Call of Duty has been an iconic gaming staple for more than 20 years, with Warzone being a driving force amongst the game’s global popularity and tight-knit community.

Help launch Call of Duty’s most popular game mode on mobile.

The popularity of Call of Duty: Warzone on consoles is indisputable, but translating console games to mobile-first audiences is a complex shift towards demos that love more than just Warzone, but the franchise in its entirety. 

Fuel their feeds with mobile gaming culture content that entertains, inspires, and educates.

We knew in order to capture the attention of our research-driven target audience, we’d have to bridge the gap between Warzone and entertainment to ignite a new fandom. Moreover, we had to create content that inspired a new audience—familiar with Warzone, but unfamiliar with the mobile experience—to contribute and create in their new seat at the table of familiar IP.

The Execution

We created a slate of consumable content that educates and entertains with a mobile-first direction. From voicemails and infomercials to influencer collaborations and Warzone-themed memes, we drove engagement through a balance of gaming culture and product awareness.

The Results

Despite some bugs in game build, the launch drove considerable revenue in the first days after the launch. The Operation Day Zero activation was particularly successful in the United States (where our team’s marketing efforts were focused), despite mobile-first audiences’ larger presence globally. Launch weekend content generated nearly 2B impressions and 250K+ mentions across social platforms.
